On June 17, this year, a fatal accident occurred at the junction of Tom Mboya Street and Muragua lane in Nairobi, resulting in the death of Meline Waithera, 25, the daughter of Deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Mbugua.

According to the police, Patrick Macharia Magu, the driver of the minibus operated by KMO Sacco, reversed the vehicle dangerously without due care to other road users, sandwiching Waithera between another motor vehicle.

Waithera sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Magu abandoned the minibus at the scene and fled to evade arrest, but was later traced and arrested along University Way and detained at Central police station.

On Friday morning, Magu appeared before Milimani Senior Resident Magistrate Martha Nanzushi and was granted a Ksh300,000 cash bail, pending further investigations into the matter.
