Unique Accommodation Options to Explore While Travelling in Kenya ¶
Kenya's tourist destinations have long been a magnet for the wealthy and famous, but increasingly, Kenyans are discovering the joys of exploring their own country's hidden gems. With a rise in demand for accommodation during holidays and festive seasons, finding the perfect place to stay can be a challenge.
According to travel expert Kevin Owino, founder of Keitan Safaris Limited, there are numerous options available for travelers looking for a unique experience. Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Owino highlighted the various forms of accommodation that cater to different tastes and preferences.
"There are different forms of accommodation people can choose from...in Kenya there are businessmen or hoteliers coming up with unique accommodations," Owino commented.
Camping and Glamping
Camping is a viable option that requires a tent and a mattress, while glamping offers a more luxurious experience with tree houses, safari tents, and camping cabins. Owino describes camping pods as a cozy option, with a small triangular house featuring a mattress placed on the floor.
Hotels & Motels
Hotels and motels are a common choice for travelers, with various categories available, including standard and luxury rooms. Owino notes that hotels offer a range of amenities and services to make your stay comfortable.
Cottages and Villas
Cottages and villas offer a home away from home experience, with the option to prepare meals and relax in a sitting area or lounge. Owino notes that villas are more luxurious than cottages, providing modernized facilities.
Leisure Accommodation Vehicles
Leisure accommodation vehicles allow travelers to spend the night in their car, with the option to set up a tent on the roof. Owino notes that this option provides flexibility and convenience.
Cultural Experience
Staying in traditional houses provides a cultural experience, with locals offering their huts for rent. Owino notes that this option is fairly priced, estimated at Ksh 2,000.
Homestays
Homestays allow travelers to stay in a local's home, with the option to rent a guest room or the entire house. Owino notes that this option provides a unique experience and a chance to interact with locals.
With these unique accommodation options, travelers can experience the best of Kenya's culture, wildlife, and natural beauty.
