On June 28 and 29, President Uhuru Kenyatta was set to tour the Ukambani region, a plan announced during a meeting with Lower Eastern region leaders at State House on June 14.
However, the President arrived in Kitui earlier than expected, warming up for his official tour and the launch of the Marian Shrine of Our Lady of Protection in Museve.
According to State House, the event, graced by the Head of State, will also involve the commitment of the Shrine constructed by the Catholic Church.
"The Marian Shrine was developed by the Catholic Diocese of Kitui to serve as a privileged place of prayer, retreat and recollections," the statement said.
President Kenyatta was escorted to Kitui by Cabinet Secretary for Defence Monica Juma and received by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, and other Ukambani local leaders.
