On June 25, 2021, a dramatic scene unfolded in Kisii town as a man attempted to take his own life by jumping off a five-storey building.
According to eyewitnesses, the man was seen moving to and fro atop the building before he sat at the edge and slid off, but fortunately fell onto the balcony of the first floor, which is located next to the Regnol Petrol station in the CBD.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with people rushing to rescue the injured man. A second-hand clothes dealer, Sally Nyaboke, said she saw the man walking at the top of the building before another man, believed to be his relative, started begging him to come down to the petrol station.
Benjamin Mogambi, a witness who was walking along the road, was startled by a loud bang before he looked up to see people rushing to rescue the injured man.
Kisii County Police Commander Francis Kooli confirmed that investigations were underway to establish the cause of the suicide attempt.
