On June 25, 2021, Elgeyo Marakwet County made a significant move to boost the economic status of its youth and women by distributing Sh13.5 million to 75 groups undertaking value addition and women empowerment.
The funds, which amount to Sh9.5 million, were given to the value addition groups, while Sh4 million went to women empowerment groups through the Nation Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).
Addressing the press at Iten in Keiyo North Constituency, Women Representative Jane Chebaibai emphasized the importance of using the funds wisely to improve their economic status.
"We also have bursaries that we have been giving to students and others who wish to go to driving schools," she said.
The legislator encouraged more youths to apply for the grants to improve their economic status, noting that the funds would come in handy, especially during the tough economic times occasioned by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
She also highlighted the programme's efforts in donating wheelchairs to disabled persons across the county.
