On June 25, 2021, the body of a 71-year-old man was exhumed in Nyeri County, following a court order obtained by the family after they discovered he had been buried by a woman who was not his lawful spouse.
The deceased, Hudson Wanjohi Ndumia, had died on May 10, 2021, and was buried on May 22 by his paramour, who lives in Kagongo, Tetu Constituency in Nyeri County.
According to the family, Ndumia had fallen out with his wife and was living with his lover, a widow, at her home in Tetu, Nyeri County. The family only learned of the burial after obtaining an exhumation order from the Nyeri Law Courts on June 18, 2021.
‘He had been hospitalised with burn injuries in his private parts. We suspect he suffered the injuries during a fight with the woman he was living with,’ said Samuel Ndumia, the deceased’s brother.
The exhumation was supervised by police, and Ndumia’s remains were taken to Mathari Consolata Mission Hospital morgue, where a postmortem will be conducted.
