On June 25, 2021, Tejveer Rai, a Kenyan rally driver and son of Kabras Sugar Company owner, crashed out of the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally 2021.
According to eyewitnesses, Rai's vehicle nose-dived at Kedong after rolling several times, but fortunately, he did not suffer serious physical harm.
Following the accident, Rai was flown to Nairobi for a check-up, and the incident led to an automatic nullification of his participation in the rally.
As seen in an amateur footage, shocked rally enthusiasts responded quickly by returning the vehicle to its position and checking whether any of the crew members had been hurt.
Before participating in the championships, Rai's vehicle had been rebuilt and tested, and he had expressed gratitude to the government for allowing him to participate.
"It is a dream come true... The difference between the top cars and our cars is a big difference but all the same, we hope to show the international drivers that Kenya has some talent and maybe one day, one of our boys will get a chance to drive the big cars," Rai stated in a previous interview.
