On June 25, 2021, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) officially marked the completion of the KSh1 billion cruise ship terminal in Mombasa county, a significant milestone for the tourism sector.
The new terminal, which has been under construction since 2020, boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including a passenger lobby, duty-free shops, restaurants, conference facilities, and office spaces for key tourism stakeholders.
According to Vincent Sidai, KPA General Manager in charge of Infrastructure Development, the contractor is now carrying out final touches, including equipping the facility ahead of the official commissioning.
The terminal is expected to attract more cruise ships and promote tourism in the country, building on the momentum witnessed before the COVID-19 pandemic, when Mombasa saw a spike in cruise ships, bringing in large numbers of high-spending tourists from around the world.
