On June 24, 2021, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) launched a raid on a militia hideout in Kwale's Bombo area, following intelligence that a group of three militias were planning to stage an attack.
During the operation, the suspects attempted to escape, prompting the detectives to open fire, killing one terror suspect.
The other two suspects managed to escape with gunshot wounds, according to the DCI.
Police recovered a range of items, including an AK47 rifle, 763 rounds of ammunition, a laptop, and several mobile phones.
The officers also found a note listing targeted areas.
"The area is still being combed for more suspects, with more officers deployed to beef up security in the area. Meanwhile, anti-terrorism detectives have launched investigations into the incident," the DCI said.
