Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, is a city that comes with a hefty price tag. Mercer's Cost of Living City Ranking survey has ranked Nairobi as the 21st most expensive city to live in Africa.
On a global scale, Nairobi has made significant strides, moving up from the 95th position in the 2020 rankings to 145 in 2021. This improvement is a testament to the city's growing economy and increasing cost of living.
East Africa's other major cities, such as Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, Kampala in Uganda, and Kigali, Rwanda, also feature in the rankings, with Dar Es Salaam ranking 167th, Kampala 171st, and Kigali 175th globally.
The survey, which examined 206 cities across the world, took into account factors such as currency fluctuations, cost inflation for goods and services, and accommodation prices.
