Kenya Records 741 New Covid-19 Cases, Total Infections Rise to 181,239

On June 24th, 2021, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced 741 new Covid-19 cases in Kenya, bringing the national tally to 181,239.

The cases were identified from 6,995 samples tested, increasing the cumulative number of tests to 1,926,973. The country's Covid-19 positivity rate rose from 10% to 10.7% in the last 24 hours.

According to Kagwe, 698 of the new cases were Kenyans, while 43 were foreigners. The age range of the new cases spanned from a one-year-old child to a 101-year-old individual.

Of the new cases, 464 were males, and 277 were females. The Ministry of Health also reported that 99 patients had recovered from the disease, with 52 recovering from the home-based and isolation care programme, and 47 from various health facilities.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 123,462. Unfortunately, the country's death toll rose to 3,538 after 24 more people succumbed to the disease.

There are currently 1,059 patients admitted to various health facilities, while 6,599 patients are under the home-based isolation and care programme. Additionally, 100 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 36 on ventilatory support and 51 on supplemental oxygen.

Another 140 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen, with 131 in general wards and nine in High Dependency Units (HDU).

The distribution of cases in counties is as follows: Nairobi had 146 cases, Busia 92, Siaya 76, Kisumu 51, Mombasa 47, Kericho 39, Kitui 37, Kisii 35, Uasin Gishu 27, Kakamega 26, Nyamira 21, Kilifi 17, Vihiga and Nandi, 16 cases each, Homa Bay 14, Nakuru 13, and Kiambu and Meru 10 cases each.
