On June 25, 2021, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni declared a public holiday for prayer amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, calling on the nation to pray for health experts and families affected by the virus.

According to the Ugandan government, the country had reported 74,260 COVID-19 cases and 752 deaths since its first reported case.

President Museveni announced that the prayers will be held virtually, involving worshipers from all faiths and denominations, and will take place at State House Entebbe at mid-day via Zoom.

Members of the public have been asked to attend prayers from their homes through radios, TVs, and social media channels that will relay the prayers live.

The development comes a week after President Museveni imposed a total lockdown of the country for 42 days as a measure to control the spread of the virus.
