On June 17, 2021, a devastating accident occurred at the Tom Mboya and Marugua lane junction in Nairobi County, resulting in the tragic death of Meline Waithera Mbugua, the daughter of Deputy Inspector General Edward Mbugua.

Patrick Macharia Magu, the driver of the matatu, has been accused of causing the death by driving the vehicle recklessly and at a speed that was dangerous to the public. The vehicle, a KBR 065B Isuzu mini bus, was found to have tinted windows and no valid inspection sticker, and some of its parts and equipment were not properly maintained.

Magu denied the charges before Nairobi traffic Magistrate Martha Nanzushi and was granted a bond of Sh 600,000 with an alternative cash bail of Sh 300,000.
