On June 24, 2021, Riziki Chereno Ali, the wife of Dutch tycoon Herman Rouwenhorst, was arrested by homicide detectives at her home in Bamburi, Mombasa.
The arrest comes after a three-week investigation by the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) unit and homicide detectives, who had been camping in Mombasa for two weeks.
Coast Region Police Commander Paul Ndambuki stated that Ali was the main suspect in the murder of Rouwenhorst, alongside other suspects still at large.
According to police, Ali allegedly allowed three men into her house, where her husband was strangled to death.
Postmortem results revealed that Rouwenhorst was first hit with a blunt object on his head before being strangled to death.
Ali's arrest follows the confession of two of her daughters, who told detectives that on the night of the murder, Ali led three men into her bedroom before commotion ensued.
Ali is set to be arraigned at the Mombasa law courts to face murder charges.
