WRC Safari Rally Returns to Kenya ¶
The World Rally Championship is back in Kenya after a 19-year absence, with the four-day event set to take place from June 24 to 27, 2021.
International and local rally drivers have assembled at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi ahead of the highly anticipated event.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to flag off the rally, which will culminate in Naivasha.
Security measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of fans, with the Principal Administrative Secretary for Interior, Moffat Kangi, confirming the arrangements.
Meanwhile, Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has urged Kenyans to observe COVID-19 containment measures during the event.
"All the COVID-19 protocols remain in place, nothing has been suspended. The rally takes place during the day, and we don't expect multitudes of people congregating in Naivasha at night," CS Mohamed said in a press briefing on Wednesday.
The event was initially set to return last year but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Here is the schedule for the WRC Safari Rally:
- June 24: Presidential and VIP speeches at KICC, Super Special Stage SSS 1 at Kasarani (Section 1)
