Former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo passed away on June 14, 2021, due to kidney failure. His funeral arrangements have been announced, with the burial set to take place on Saturday, June 26, 2021.
According to his family spokesperson, Dr George Midiwo, Jakoyo's remains will leave Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi on Saturday morning and be transported to Wilson Airport for a flight to Kisumu International Airport. From there, the body will be taken by road to his home in Mabinju, Gem Constituency, where a funeral mass will be held at 10am at Ndori Primary School, followed by the burial.
The late lawmaker's funeral committee raised Sh2 million for his burial, as per Dr George Midiwo's statement to The Standard. The family has emphasized the importance of adhering to Covid-19 rules during the funeral, with police deployed to ensure strict control of the crowd.
Dr George Midiwo stated, “Jakoyo will be buried where our parents were laid to rest. His burial will be conducted by 1pm. We don’t want the programme to drag because Jakoyo was against people crowding at funerals to avoid the spread of Covid-19.”
His brother added, “There will be security checkpoints to ensure the crowd is controlled.”
