On June 24, 2021, a significant development took place in the investigation into the murder of Dutch tycoon Herman Rouwenhorst, whose body was found at his Shanzu apartment three weeks prior.
Riziki Chereno Ali, Rouwenhorst's wife, was arrested by homicide detectives at her home in Bamburi, marking a major breakthrough in the case.
The arrest follows a thorough investigation by the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) unit and homicide detectives, who have been camping in Mombasa for the past two weeks.
According to Coast Region Police Commander Paul Ndambuki, Ali was arrested after the conclusion of investigations indicated that she was the main suspect in the heinous murder, alongside other suspects still at large.
Further investigation is underway to apprehend a suspect believed to have been in constant communication with Ali in the days leading up to the murder.
Ali is expected to be arraigned at the Mombasa law courts to face murder charges, as detectives continue to piece together the events surrounding Rouwenhorst's tragic death.
