On June 22, 2021, a motorist was shot and killed by a three-man gang on Thika Road in Ruiru. The victim, a 35-year-old man, was driving a Subaru Forester with the number plates KDC 010H.
The gang, riding on a motorcycle, sprayed more than 10 bullets on the vehicle, causing the motorist to succumb to his injuries at Thika Level 5 Hospital.
According to a report by KTN News on June 23, 2021, the motorist had two ongoing criminal cases, one in a Machakos court and the other in Nakuru. The Machakos case involved a robbery with violence charge.
Experts suspect that the shooting was planned, as it occurred in broad daylight and nothing was stolen. 'It is not normal because criminals do not waste bullets in such incidences,' an expert stated.
Police officers are investigating the incident and piecing together information to establish what led to the heinous act and who the perpetrators are.
The incident took place in the wake of rising insecurity cases along Kenyan Highways. On June 24, 2021, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested six more suspects linked to robberies of motorists and pedestrians along the Southern Bypass in Nairobi.
