On June 23, 2021, a multi-agency team of detectives from the Cyber and Forensic Analysis and Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, in collaboration with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), arrested six suspects linked to a series of robberies along Nairobi's Southern By-Pass.
The suspects, aged between 21-32 years, were arrested in Kawangware, Nairobi, and are suspected of robbing unsuspecting motorists and pedestrians.
According to the DCI, the suspects were arrested during an operation mounted by Lang'ata-based crime busters, who recovered over 100 assorted mobile phones, all suspected to be stolen.
"During the operation, we managed to arrest Messi Martha Mutioka, Tevin Njuguna, Edward Baraza Shikoba, Lawrence Gitahi Ndirangu, Kenneth Maina Chege, and David Lugali Asianja," the DCI tweeted.
Police have urged persons who have lost their phones to visit the Lang'ata Police Station to identify their items.
This latest development comes in the backdrop of rising crime and insecurity in Nairobi and especially in the Central Business District (CBD).
Just this week, a team of conmen and conwomen were accosted by angry residents around Kenya National Archives in Nairobi, following rampant complaints that they were terrorising and mugging city residents and by-passers.
On Monday, the DCI urged victims of theft and mugging to report their ordeals to the police instead of taking to social media.
