The Kenyan Government has issued measures ahead of the WRC Safari Rally mega event, set to kick-off on June 24. The event is expected to boost the country's economy.

According to the Ministry of Sports, groups of more than twenty people are discouraged at designated spectating zones along the circuit. This is to ensure the safety of fans and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday, Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed urged Kenyans to observe COVID-19 containment measures during the four-day event.

“All the COVID-19 protocols remain in place, nothing has been suspended. The rally takes place during the day, and we don’t expect multitudes of people congregating in Naivasha at night,” said CS Mohamed.

Security measures have also been put in place to ensure the safety of fans. The Principal Administrative Secretary for Interior, Moffat Kangi, said that the General of Police has deployed uniformed and plain-cloth police officers at strategic places along the circuit.

“We are happy that this multi-million dollar event is going to boost our economy. The first thing we must do as Kenyans and WRC fans is to express our excitement in a reasonable way and behave well. We must observe all the safety measures and the COVID-19 protocols at all times,” said Kangi.

The event is scheduled to take place from June 24 to June 27, with various stages and activities planned for each day.
