On June 23, 2021, police in Kwale County received intelligence reports that suspected Al-Shabaab militants were planning an attack on a security establishment in the area.
Acting on the tip, police raided a suspected hideout in Bombo, Matuga Sub-County, at 5:30am and fatally shot one suspect. Two others escaped with gunshot wounds.
Recovered from the scene were an AK-47 rifle, 763 bullets, a HP laptop, nine mobile phones, a flash drive, 100 grams of magnesium metal powder, an MP3 player, a note listing targeted areas, and a box of filter paper.
The deceased was taken to Kwale Sub-County Hospital morgue for post-mortem. Police are now pursuing the two escaped suspects.
