Published on June 23, 2021, a robbery at the offices of Water Mission Kenya in Kitale left a trail of destruction and loss. The incident occurred when workers reported for duty, only to find the lifeless body of the watchman and their offices ransacked.
According to Joseph Kibet, a senior staff member, the gate was found open, and the watchman's body was discovered behind the offices. The criminals made off with solar panels and water pumps worth millions of shillings, which were intended to support learning institutions in accessing clean water.
Water Mission Kenya's county director, Moses Ng'ania, confirmed the theft, stating that the organization had lost property worth millions of shillings. The stolen equipment included items meant for the ongoing Kiminini water project, which aims to provide clean water to hundreds of residents in the densely populated Kiminini township.
Police officers, led by Naisambu OCS Hellen Too, have launched an investigation into the incident. The robbery is a devastating blow to the community, which has long struggled with access to clean water.
