On June 15, 2021, Hafsa Mohammed Lukman, a young woman, was abducted by two men in Kayole, Nairobi, after being lured by a friend with a business proposal.

According to police, the abductors had rented a house in Kayole, located about 400 meters from the Kayole Police Station, using the victim's phone to withdraw money and pay rent.

On Tuesday, June 15, the abductors returned to the house and took the victim to a 210-liter water tank, which was dropped by a black car that police are still searching for.

Residents of the area reported seeing the abductors, who appeared to be a couple, taking the tank into the house.

However, it was a child who finally heard the victim's screams for help on Sunday night and alerted the neighbors.

A neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, said, 'There was nothing out of the ordinary until I heard a woman screaming in the house at around 3 am on Sunday morning. I suspected it was a domestic fight, but woke up hours later to hear her still screaming, and just as I was beginning to think about what could be happening, a child told us that there was someone calling for help out of the house.'

Thanks to the quick thinking of the child and the efforts of the community, the police were able to rescue the victim on Sunday, June 20, 2021.

One suspect, 24-year-old Cyrus Ndung'u Njogu, was arrested and is being held at Buruburu police station. The Buruburu DCI office obtained orders to detain Njogu for 10 days as investigations continue.
