The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has extended the deadline for player and club registration for the 2021/22 Champions League and Confederation Cup competitions.
Initially, Caf had set a deadline of June 30 for all federations to submit teams for the Champions League. However, in a statement issued on June 22, the governing body announced an extension of the deadline for player registration on its CMS to August 15, 2021.
The 2021/22 season is set to kick off on September 10, 2021, with the first round of the Preliminaries. According to Caf, 12 of the highest-ranked national associations will be allowed to enter two clubs in both the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
The countries eligible to enter two clubs are Algeria, Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Guinea, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Zambia.
Caf has also extended the five substitutions per match rule for the 2021/22 Interclubs season. Each club will be allowed to register 40 players instead of the regular 30, and nine substitutes will be allowed on the bench instead of the regular seven.
