June 22, 2021, marked a tragic day in Katunoi village, Baringo Central, where a man identified as Alexander Kipchumba allegedly shot dead his elder brother, Alphonse Kipchumba, and sister-in-law, Melvin Rotich, over a land dispute.
The incident occurred after Alexander was denied the chance to sell his parcel of land, leading to a heated altercation with his brother and sister-in-law.
Alphonse and Melvin were both shot at the left side of the chest, with Alphonse dying instantly and Melvin succumbing to her injuries while being rushed to Baringo County Referral Hospital.
Baringo County OCPD, Francis Gachoki, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, who was found with a bow and four poisonous arrows in his hideout at Kaptimbor in the outskirts of Kabarnet town.
According to the OCPD, the suspect's brother recorded a statement at Kabarnet police station, stating that Alexander was likely under the influence of bhang during the altercation.
Residents of Kapkelelwa location have now called upon the government to construct a police station in the area to avert rising cases of crime.
The bodies of the deceased are currently at Baringo county referral mortuary.
