On June 22, 2021, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i announced the closure of major roads in Kenya ahead of the World Rally Championships (WRC) Safari Rally in Naivasha.

According to a gazette notice, the Kikopey–Elementaita Village road will be closed to all vehicles between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Heavy commercial vehicles weighing above 3 tones will be directed to steer off gazetted roads between 12:00 a.m. and 7 p.m. on set days, with trucks parking at designated parking areas until the roads reopen.

Specifically, trucks plying the Eldoret–Nakuru Highway will park on Thursday, June 24, while those on the Kericho–Nakuru Highway will do so on Friday, June 25.

On Saturday, June 26, trucks on the Nyahururu–Nakuru Highway will be barred from accessing the road, and on Sunday, June 27, trucks on the Mombasa–Nairobi–Mai Mahiu–Naivasha Highway will be restricted.

The road closures are intended to guarantee safe and secure operation of the WRC Safari Rally Kenya, 2021, as per section 69 (b) of the Traffic Act of the laws of Kenya.
