June 22, 2021 - Nairobi, Kenya - The Kenyan taekwondo team has checked into a pre-departure bubble camp at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Faith Ogallo, the country's sole taekwondo representative, is beaming with confidence as she prepares to compete in the global games in Tokyo in a month's time.
Backed by a team of eight, including a technical team and sparring partners, Ogallo is determined to make a mark at the Olympics.
Her journey to the Olympics began at the University of Kibabii, where she is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in social work.
This will be Kenya's second appearance in taekwondo at the Olympic games, following their debut in 2008.
Recalling her rise to prominence, Ogallo credits her success to her achievements in junior competitions, including a silver medal at the All-Africa games.
“Among the medals I celebrate the most is a gold medal from the Rwanda Genocide Memorial Cup and another gold medal in the East Africa University games that were held at the University of Dodoma,” she explained.
Her ultimate goal is to change the face of sports in Kenya by winning an Olympic medal.
After undergoing COVID-19 testing upon arrival at the camp, Ogallo will continue training in preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
