On June 20, 2021, eight South Sudanese national team players tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of their FIFA Arab Cup Tournament.
The FIFA Bureau for Men's Senior Tournaments announced that the Arab Cup qualifiers match between South Sudan and Jordan was forfeited with a 3-0 win to Jordan, citing article 5.6 of the competition regulations ('force majeure') to protect the health of players and everyone involved.
Seven more players tested positive for Covid-19 after two rounds of PCR tests, with five players receiving a reactive test result, indicating they were likely incubating the virus.
According to FIFA, the players are currently in isolation and receiving medical care through the Qatar national healthcare system.
FIFA and local organisers expressed regret over the situation and wished the South Sudanese delegation a speedy recovery, promising to refund match tickets.
The 2021 FIFA Arab Cup is scheduled to take place at six Qatar 2022 tournament venues, featuring 23 nations, including Qatar, Algeria, and Jordan.
