On June 21, 2021, a woman's life hung in the balance as she fought for survival in a Nairobi hospital after being shot and seriously wounded by thugs on a motorcycle in the Greenspan area of Donholm.

According to the police, the unidentified woman was heading home when the gang struck, shooting her in the chest as they grabbed a bag from her and sped off.

The middle-aged woman was left lying in a pool of blood and was later rushed to hospital in critical condition.

As the city grapples with a worrying trend of mugging cases, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has appealed to the public to report such incidents to the police.

On the same day, Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) presenter Shiksha Arora recounted her own harrowing experience of being robbed at the Globe roundabout flyover.

DCI has urged victims to file formal complaints at the Nairobi Central DCI offices instead of sharing their experiences on social media.

"Whereas sharing mugging cases on social media is good for sensitization, members of the public are encouraged to file formal complaints to help the police and the prosecution build water-tight cases against perpetrators once arrests are made," said DCI in a statement.
