On June 21, 2021, the Port Director of Tanzania's largest port, Dar es Salaam, issued a notice to users, effective January 2021, prohibiting the storage of explosive consignments within the port complex.

The decision aims to safeguard people, port infrastructure, properties, and the environment.

According to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code, classes of cargo including explosives, flammable solids and gases, substances liable to spontaneous combustion, and substances emitting flammable gases when in contact with water are now subject to direct delivery procedures.
