The Subaru Saga: A Cautionary Tale of Car Maintenance and Financial Woes

Published on June 22, 2021

Kevin, a neighbour of mine, has a passion for his Subaru that borders on obsession. He has spent a small fortune 'souping up' his car, transforming it into a noisy, faster monstrosity that has become the car alarm for our neighbourhood.

One fateful day, Kevin's Subaru developed a faulty turbo, which led to a series of unfortunate events. He had to seek out a new mechanic, who, unfortunately, was not thorough in his work. The mechanic failed to fix all the pipes under the hood and didn't check to see if he had done a good job.

As a result, Kevin's Subaru continued to have issues, which culminated in a disastrous date. The car lost power and the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree, leaving Kevin and his date stranded along the bypass.

Kevin quickly called the mechanic to report the issue, but they couldn't accurately diagnose the problem. He then had to call a cab for his date and wait for a flatbed tow truck to arrive. To make matters worse, it started raining, and Kevin had to get out in the rain to help the tow truck operators set up his car.

As he sat miserably in the rain, Kevin's father lectured him on how irresponsible he was for not managing his money well and how the Subaru was the cause of all his financial woes. It was a tough day for Kevin, but he eventually remembered a service offered by Co-op Bank that could have saved the day.

Co-op Bank's Flexi Cash Salary Advance allows customers to borrow from Ksh 3,000 to a maximum of Ksh 100,000, with recovery done within 1 to 3 months. No security is needed, and the processing is instant. Kevin could have accessed this service by opening a salary account with Co-op Bank and providing a copy of his KRA PIN.

Despite the setbacks, Kevin's story serves as a cautionary tale of the importance of proper car maintenance and financial planning. It's a reminder that even the most well-intentioned plans can go awry, and it's essential to have a safety net in place to mitigate the risks.
