On June 22, 2021, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) unveiled a new digital system aimed at revolutionizing revenue collection in Nairobi County.
The system, dubbed Nairobi Revenue System (NRS), is an initiative of the National Government, in collaboration with the Nairobi Metropolitan Services and the Kenya Revenue Authority.
The NRS is designed to have an integrated single revenue collection system, with services being deployed in phases as the technology advances.
Some of the services expected to be tackled by the system include parking fees payment, applications and renewals of Trade Licence, customer registration and account creation, market cess, and applications for Food Handlers Certificate for both individual and non-individual.
According to the taxman, the system has been operationalized, and an official launch is expected in a few days.
The NRS services are available on the NRS portal, which can be accessed through the link https://nairobiservices.go.ke or by downloading the Nairobi e-Services mobile app from Google Play Store.
Under the parking section, customers have the option to pay for daily parking, seasonal parking, off-street parking, and reserved parking.
However, Market Cess and payment of daily on-street parking fees will not require customer account creation on NRS.
Some of the benefits of the service include integrated customer touch points, online services, and simplified customer interfaces to cater for different demographics.
The taxman took charge of eight revenue clusters, including Land Rates, Single Business Permit, and Billboards & adverts from Nairobi County under the deed of transfer beginning March 2020.
