Published on June 30, 2019, a pregnant woman was stabbed to death in south London, with her baby delivered in a critical condition.
Police were called to an address in south London at 3:30 a.m. and found a 26-year-old pregnant woman with stab injuries. The baby was delivered and taken to hospital, where it was in a critical condition.
Later that night, police were informed of an incident in the east of London and found a man in his late 20s suffering from stab injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incidents appeared to be unrelated, with a 37-year-old man arrested on suspicion of the woman's murder.
Prime Minister Theresa May has faced criticism over the rising incidence of knife-crime, which has led to 285 fatal stabbings in England and Wales in 2018, the highest level since records began.
‘This is a horrific incident in which a young mother has lost her life and her child is critically ill,’ said Detective Chief Inspector Mick Norman.
