Published on June 22, 2021, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu has made a unique nomination, tapping hip hop star Nikki Wa Pili as the new District Commissioner for Kisarawe.

This move follows in the footsteps of her predecessor, the late President John Magufuli, who also drew from the creative industry to shape his government's composition.

Nikki Wa Pili takes over the position previously held by Jocate Mwegelo, a former actress and businesswoman who was transferred to Temeke in Dar es Salaam.

At the oath-taking ceremony, Nikki Wa Pili was joined by other nominated leaders, including Colonel Ahmed Abbay Ahmed, representing Kibiti, and Khadija Ally for Mkuranga.

However, Edward Gowele, the new District Commissioner for Rufiji, was noticeably absent due to his hospitalization.

Speaking to the press after his appointment, Nikki Wa Pili emphasized the importance of utilizing their talents, time, and abilities to bring development to the people of the coast and Kisarawe in general.

His wife was also present at the ceremony, thanking President Suluhu for the nomination and hinting at her husband's future prospects of becoming the president.

Members of Nikki Wa Pili's musical family, including Joh Makini, G Nako, and Lord Eyez, were also in attendance, looking dapper in their suits.

Nikki Wa Pili has promised to continue his endeavors in the art industry, stating that his creative contributions will continue to be present in all national and local art agendas.
