Published on June 22, 2021, Kenyan authorities have reached out to Interpol for assistance in verifying the identity and nationality of a prime suspect in the murder of lawyer Elizabeth Koki Musyoki.

The suspect, known by his aliases Christian Baledi Kadima and Eric Kambaye Katalayi, claims to be Congolese but has been found with multiple travel documents bearing different names and nationalities.

Justice David Kemei of the High Court dismissed the suspect's application for bail, citing concerns over his identity and the risk of flight.

The court found that the suspect has no fixed place of abode in Kenya and that his friends and acquaintances, including officials from the Congolese Embassy, have distanced themselves from him.

According to Justice Kemei, the pre-bail report indicated that the suspect's friends in Nairobi were unwilling to guarantee his bail, fearing that their properties might be sold off if he absconded.

The judge also noted that the suspect's modus operandi involved befriending women, cohabiting with them for short periods, and then ending the relationship and changing his residence.

Additionally, the report revealed that the suspect's family is dysfunctional, with his father living in the Democratic Republic of Congo, his mother in South Africa, and his siblings in other countries.

Kenyan authorities have forwarded the suspect's details to Interpol for verification, and the prosecution has also raised concerns that the suspect is a fugitive from justice, with claims that he is wanted in South Africa for assault.

Justice Kemei concluded that it would be unsafe to admit the suspect on bail due to the high likelihood that he might not turn up for his trial.
