Published on June 22, 2021, a devastating wave of Covid-19 swept through Kisumu's Kajulu, claiming the lives of several residents.
Grace's parents, who were being treated for malaria at St. Consolata Hospital, suddenly passed away, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions. Their daughter, Grace, expressed her shock and grief, stating that the doctors had initially diagnosed her parents with malaria but their sudden deaths have left many questions.
Just a few miles away, in Kadero village, the family of Ibrahim Omollo is still grappling with the loss of their loved one. He was buried last Saturday after losing the battle to Covid complications at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital's isolation centre. His son, George Omondi, recalled the family's shock and grief, saying they had prayed and fasted for three days for his recovery but unfortunately, their prayers went unanswered.
Another family in the neighbouring Rapogi village is yet to come to terms with the death of their kin, who is also suspected to have died of Coronavirus. Gordon Okumu, 66, died on May 24 and was buried three days later. Sheril Awuor, who was taking care of the deceased, expressed her shock and grief, saying his death came too soon and took them by surprise.
As the families in Kajulu struggle to cope with the loss of their loved ones, the area has witnessed many reported cases of people dying from Corona complications. The county's Covid-19 regulations require that bodies be interred within 72 hours, adding to the families' distress.
