On June 19, 2021, police officers apprehended a 22-year-old man caught in a disturbing act at the Homa Bay Referral Hospital mortuary. The incident occurred just four days after the murder of a 40-year-old Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teacher in the Gul Kagembe area.

The teacher, who served her community until her untimely death, was shot dead by unidentified attackers while washing dishes at her house in Rangwe on Tuesday, June 15, 2021.

According to the police report, the suspect, Onyango, sneaked into the mortuary and had a conversation with the guides, who asked him to register his details before allowing him to view any bodies. When asked whose body he wanted to see, Onyango gave the name of a male and was taken to where the body was laying.

However, instead of viewing the male body, Onyango saw the body of the female teacher and squatted beside it before he began licking her blood. An attendant told the police that Onyango commenced sampling the blood with his right finger before he knelt and began stretching out to the blood using his tongue.

Onyango told the police that the blood of the woman was 'tasty and interesting.' The police are yet to reveal the cause of the teacher's death, but they are questioning Onyango over the incident and investigating whether he was involved in her murder.
