Businessman Tom Mboya, accused of attempting to murder hotel owner William Kosewe, claims he acted in self-defense, his lawyer said.

According to Prof Tom Ojienda, Mboya's lawyer, the altercation occurred on December 16, 2016, at the Argon Hotel in Nairobi, where Kosewe was a guest.

Prof Ojienda told the court that Mboya had been defending himself against Kosewe, who he claimed had been threatening him.

"Mboya had been shot by Kosewe, and he knew he was going to be killed," Prof Ojienda said.

He added that Mboya had been trying to protect himself, but Kosewe had been trying to harm him.

Prosecutor Bw Anderson Gikunda, however, asked the court to severely punish Mboya for attempting to kill Kosewe and his bodyguard, who was shot in the leg.

On August 7, 2021, Mboya will be sentenced for the attempted murder.
