On June 21, 2021, Mombasa County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo sounded a warning to residents of Mombasa against flouting Covid-19 protocols.

Speaking at an event to flag off a sensitization public awareness campaign at the Treasury Square in Mombasa, Kitiyo emphasized the importance of regular handwashing, wearing face masks, and social distancing to curb the spread of the virus.

‘The cooperation of the citizens and taking personal responsibility is crucial to our efforts to fight this disease,’ Kitiyo said.

He underscored that the county had recorded 365 deaths due to Covid-19 complications, with 12,061 cases reported in the region.

Kitiyo welcomed the decision by the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs to launch a countrywide sensitization campaign, describing it as timely and crucial in curbing the spread of the deadly coronavirus disease.

He warned that failure to comply with Covid-19 protocols would lead to a surge in new infections, making it compulsory for residents to stringently continue practicing Ministry of Health guidelines.
