Published on June 21, 2021, a tragic incident unfolded in Ol Joroorok, Nyandarua County, leaving the community gripped by fear.

On Saturday, a suspect was lynched by a mob after being found with stolen chicken. The victim, a 50-year-old man who made chicken cages, had a history of stealing the birds.

Three days later, on Monday morning, school-going children stumbled upon the body of 36-year-old Paul Maina Mbogo, who was dumped in a potato plantation. Maina's body had head injuries, and a bottle and glass of beer were found at the scene.

According to Ol Joroorok sub-county Police Commander Jotham Wanyama, the two deaths were not related. Wanyama assured the public that the sub-county DCI officers had taken over the investigation and would deal with anyone found to have participated in Maina's killing.

Locals blamed the sale and consumption of alcohol for the deteriorating security situation in the trading centre. 'Bars in this centre operate for 24 hours, it is like curfew is alien here,' said Elizabeth Wamaitha.

The sub-county police chief promised to increase patrols in the centre to curb further incidents of insecurity.
