On June 21, 2021, the University of Nairobi held its elections, prompting a chain of events that led to the postponement of the UASU elections by two weeks.
Initially scheduled for June 28, the elections were set to take place in Nakuru after being moved from the Tom Mboya Labour College due to the COVID-19 surge in the Nyanza and western region.
According to Onesmus Mutio, the Acting Organizing Secretary for UASU, the court ordered a 14-day postponement, shifting the elections to July 5.
Speaking to Kenyan Business Feed, Mutio explained that the delay was necessary to allow candidates time to meet with delegates.
“Today, our elections which were scheduled to take place in Nakuru County have been postponed for 14 days by the Court. And so our national elections will be held on 5th next month. This has been because of the elections held at the University of Nairobi last week Friday. Those vying for the national seats asked for some time to meet the delegate,” said Onesmus.
