On June 15, 2021, a 23-year-old woman from Nairobi's Eastleigh area was kidnapped and held captive for six days. Fortunately, her ordeal ended on June 21, 2021, when she was rescued by the police in Kayole's Matopeni area.
According to eyewitnesses, Hafsa Abdulwahab was spotted by children who were playing outside an empty two-bedroomed house where she had been put. The children alerted their parents, who in turn notified the police.
Police say that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Ksh. 1 Million from Hafsa's family and friends. However, the kidnappers' plan was foiled when the children heard Hafsa's screams for help and alerted the authorities.
‘Small children heard her scream for help so they called us and told us that there is a woman locked inside there, asking for water,’ said an area resident.
As the police investigation continues, a Mpesa Agent where the suspected kidnappers withdrew money to pay for the Ksh. 7,500 rent has been taken into custody for interrogation.
