On June 16, 2020, Maasai Mara University's council held a disciplinary meeting that found Spencer Sankale, the university's former Chief Finance Officer, guilty of gross misconduct on nine charges.

According to a dismissal letter seen by K24 Digital, Sankale was found guilty of sustained insolence, malicious misrepresentation, libel, defamation, and falsely maligning the university's image and reputation.

He was also found guilty of disregarding university standards and procedures, inciting staff and the public against the university, and insubordination.

However, the Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU) has called for Sankale's immediate reinstatement, terming his dismissal as illegal and unfair.

Addressing journalists on June 21, KUSU chair Dr. Philip Onyango stated, 'We demand the reinstatement of Spencer Sankale and the disbandment of the University Council, as Sankale was not given a hearing by the university Senate.'

Spencer Sankale came to the limelight in September 2019 after being featured in an expose.
