On June 20, 2021, South Sudan's national football team was preparing to face Jordan in their first match at the FIFA Arab Cup Tournament in Doha, Qatar.
However, their preparations were disrupted when at least eight players tested positive for Covid-19, prompting the team's delegation to undergo immediate isolation.
According to a tweet by the South Sudan Football Association, six more players who had contact with the infected players were put under surveillance.
South Sudan's Football Association President Francis Amin wished the players a quick recovery and encouraged the rest of the team to remain resilient.
The delegation consisted of 401 members, including 23 players and 18 officials.
The 2021 FIFA Arab Cup is scheduled to take place at six Qatar 2022 tournament venues, featuring 23 participating nations from across the Arab world.
