On June 21, 2021, Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok emphasized the importance of sports in fighting poverty and unemployment in the city.

Speaking at Makongeni Grounds in Makadara sub-county, Imwatok stated that he will continue supporting local talent by providing them with platforms to showcase their skills.

‘‘We have done a series of tournaments, but I can assure you that this is not the end. We want to bring everyone on board to ensure our youths are nurtured and they don’t end up in Makongeni only,’’ he said.

Imwatok also urged locals to join hands with him in organizing events, rather than fighting against them, for the good of their own people.

Residents of Makongeni applauded the move, saying it will bring unity in their ward.

‘‘We need leaders like Imwatok who focus on bringing tangible benefits to the community, rather than politicking,’’ Oginga Odimba told the media.

Maziwa County football club emerged as the winner of the tournament, taking home 25 thousand shillings and other valuables.
