On June 20, 2021, a devastating accident occurred in Metamanywa, Masaba North Sub County, Nyamira County, when a Public Service Vehicle lost control and ploughed into a nearby house.
Three people tragically lost their lives in the incident, while six others, including occupants of the house and passengers, sustained injuries and were rushed to Keroka sub county hospital for treatment.
According to eyewitnesses, the occupants of the house were crying for help before police rescued and rushed them to hospital.
Confirming the incident, Masaba North police commander Robert Ndambiri revealed that the ill-fated Nissan Matatu was heading to Keroka from Sotik when the accident occurred.
Ndambiri also disclosed that the vehicle was donning red ribbons to appear as if it was in a funeral procession.
He urged passengers to report reckless PSV drivers to the police in a bid to avert such deaths and warned drivers caught by the curfew hours against speeding, instead advising them to park and wait for the official time to continue with their operations.
