On Saturday evening, a horrific incident unfolded in Ziwani estate, Nyandarua County, where two children are fighting for their lives at Nyahururu County referral hospital after being stabbed by their father.
According to eyewitnesses, Ken Mburu, who had a dispute with his wife the previous night, ran berserk and stabbed the two girls, aged 7 and 2, before setting their house ablaze and attempting to take his own life by stabbing himself.
The 7-year-old suffered 10 stabs on the back, while her younger sister received two stabs on her back. Mburu, who stabbed himself in the stomach, is also admitted to the same hospital.
Area Assistant Chief Mary Kimani revealed that the incident was triggered by a quarrel between Mburu and his wife, after which she escaped, leaving the children behind.
‘Neighbours heard the children wailing and suspected they were being attacked. A boy who arrived at the scene found the two-year-old girl wailing painfully, while calling for her mother, while the older girl was pleading with their father to stop,' Kimani said.
Kimani added that the father stabbed himself after seeing the neighbours who rescued the minors and rushed them to the hospital.
Angry neighbours wanted to lynch the man, but he was rescued by police officers from Mairo Inya police station and rushed to hospital.
