On June 19, 2021, authorities in Kisumu County heightened patrols to enforce revised curfew hours, which now start at 7pm, in an effort to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
As part of these efforts, six police officers from Nakuru were detained at Kondele Police Station for breaching Covid-19 protocols after they were found partying at a popular bar in Nyamasaria, Kisumu County.
According to a police report, the officers did not resist arrest and will be arraigned in court on Monday alongside others who were nabbed at different locations for flouting directives aimed at taming the virus.
Meanwhile, in Muhoroni, a family was forced to bury their kin, Risper Juma, at 4am on Saturday after breaching the protocols. The family had reportedly acquired a burial permit to inter Risper on Friday but failed to do so within the stipulated hours and kept the body for a night vigil.
County Commander Samuel Anampiu stated that the burial was supervised by police officers, who acted on intelligence from a multi-agency team.
On Thursday, the government imposed a dusk to dawn curfew on 13 Lake Region Economic Block counties to curb the spread of the virus, with Nyanza regional traffic boss Mwangi Nganga warning that all offenders would be nabbed.
