Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has left many questioning his claims of making a fortune from a barbershop and laundry business while at university.
According to Sakaja, profits from these ventures enabled him to acquire a high-end car and an apartment at Yaya Centre during his fourth year at the University of Nairobi.
“Every day I would get at least Ksh5,000,” Sakaja said during an interview on Churchill Show.
However, some netizens have raised doubts about the feasibility of Sakaja's claims, suggesting that savings of Ksh5,000 daily for four years would not have been enough to purchase the properties he acquired.
But Sakaja's story also highlights his involvement in student leadership and his interactions with influential politicians in the Mwai Kibaki administration, as well as his alleged mentorship by veteran trade unionist Francis Atwoli.
Now, the question remains: where did Sakaja's money come from?
