Published on June 30, 2019, reports emerged that Princess Haya, the wife of Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, had fled to Europe with their two children.

According to sources, Princess Haya, 45, and their children, Zayed, seven, and Al Jalila, 11, had sought asylum in Germany and filed for divorce from Sheikh Mohammed immediately after arriving in the country.

Sheikh Mohammed, who is also the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, has reportedly asked authorities in Berlin to return Princess Haya and their children.

However, Berlin authorities have refused, citing concerns over a potential diplomatic crisis between Germany and the United Arab Emirates.

It is worth noting that Sheikh Mohammed's name was recently in the news after reports that he was conned Sh400 million by Kenyan fake gold scammers.
